What ages are accepted into this band?

We welcome all ages, but this band is mainly for musicians between Year 5 and high school. Older or more experienced musicians are welcome to join us as mentors.

How good must my child be to be able to get in?

While we have and welcome exceptional players, we have also welcomed many beginners. The object of the band is that the beginners get to play alongside and are mentored by our more experienced players. This will thereby improve their musicianship skills more rapidly. We would recommend the child to have basic music reading skills and have learnt the fundamentals of their chosen instrument with at least 6 months to a year’s tuition.

Can my child join if they play an uncommon instrument?

Yes, get in touch. If we don’t already have music prepared for that particular instrument we can and will arrange a part for them. The more variety the better!

Is there a fee to joining?

Yes. Our fees are $120.00 for the whole year or $40.00 a term. This fee is used for music printing, insurance, instrument upkeep, rehearsal venue hire/koha etc.

We rehearse every Wednesday evening (during school term) from 7:00pm – 8:30pm (arrive by 6:45pm for setup) at Blockhouse Bay Primary School’s Performing Arts Centre.
